Schuyler Thornton Wins WPT 2025: $2.098M Championship Victory
Schuyler Thornton won the 2025 WPT World Championship and took home $2,098,456 in first-place prize money. The Texas poker pro defeated 169 other players in the $10,400 buy-in tournament held at the Wynn Las Vegas. His victory marked his first major poker tournament win and added another champion to the prestigious WPT World Championship list that includes past winners like Scott Stewart (2024), Dan Sepiol (2023), and Eliot Hudon (2022).
Thornton dominated the entire final table with a one-sided performance that surprised many poker fans. He faced only one heads-up opponent, Soheb Porbandarwala, and defeated him to claim the title. The final table featured six players competing for over $2.5 million in total prize money, but Thornton controlled the action from start to finish and never let his opponents catch up.
The 2025 WPT season included multiple championship events with impressive winners and prize pools. Artem Vezhenkov won WPT Cambodia for $390,650, while Shawn Daniels took home $218,600 at WPT Rolling Thunder. Art Peacock won the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown with a massive $776,000 prize from a $5,616,000 total prize pool that drew 1,755 entries. Mike Vanier won $338,000 at WPT Choctaw, and Brian Altman claimed the ClubWPT Gold Championship for $332,397, tying the all-time record with his fourth WPT title.
The entire 2025 WPT World Championship festival at the Wynn Las Vegas generated a $2.52 million prize pool across all events. Thornton’s victory capped off an exciting tournament that ran at the Wynn from mid-December 2025. The final table returned on Sunday with six elite players battling it out, making it one of the most competitive WPT championships in recent years.
